This is a promoter apparently downstream of the beginning of the gene it transcribes. There is clearly something wrong here at the level of the sequence. We searched possible reasons but have not found a clear explanation. It may be an error in the sequence of the E.coli K-12 vs the sequence of the strain this experiment was performed. Therefore, this information should be taken with caution. There are only 5 such cases in the database.
Expression of aldB is maximally induced during the transition from exponential phase to stationary phase. The f382 gene (yiaY, localized upstream from aldB) may be cotranscribed with aldB as part of the same operon, however there are a two sequences motif with strong similarities to a rho-independent transcriptional terminator between these genes. |
